New Version (1.7.6 – 1.7.7 – 1.7.8) – “Three For One” Update!

Edit November 8th – Version 1.7.8 just went live (Android), fixes some tweening issues about flipping and color.

More updates. MORE UPDATES.

This one showcases three new features for Stick Nodes.

Check out the announcement video below if you’re a visual learner.

Three new features

So a personal issue I’ve had with Stick Nodes was with how it handled tweening, this update finally fixes it. You can now choose how many tweened frames you want between your keyframes (1-8), before it was pre-set to always be 2. This results in much, much smoother animation when you have a good balance of FPS, tweened frames, and well-animated frames.

This *may* result in lag depending on the complexity of your animation and your device’s power. Any lag you experience when playing tweened animations will not be present in export GIFs/MP4s.

The next big change is that textfields are now tweened just like stickfigures. This was a big request from many users.

Just a note that old pre-1.7.6 projects won’t have tweened textfields. This is because they were saved without data required for the app to properly determine what to tween and what not to tween. As a result, only new projects will have this feature.

The third big change is one that has me the most excited – color gradients for segments!

Certain segment types can now transition from one color to another. Circles are excluded from this due to the functionality for it being lacking in the underlying code framework I use. Check out the first stickfigure created with subtle gradients, the Evil Default.

Changelog for 1.7.6 – 1.7.7 – 1.7.8

  • (1.7.8) Version 1.7.8 fixes tweening bugs from 1.7.6 (flipping, color). Below are 1.7.6 changes.
  • (1.7.7) Version 1.7.7 fixes bugs from 1.7.6 (copy segment, crash when exporting). Below are 1.7.6 changes.
  • (1.7.6) Improved tweening – you can now set the amount of tweened frames you want (1-8) under “Animation Tools”.
  • (1.7.6) Textfields are now tweened. Also the maximum allowed textfields per frame has been raised to 5.
  • (1.7.6) Color gradients for segments. Segments are no longer restricted to a single solid color, can have gradient applied.
  • (1.7.6) Sound files will not play when shuffling/listening to music (Pro only).

This update is not out for iOS yet, it is planned for release later this week!

New Version (1.7.4 – 1.7.5) – “Joining” Update!

So this has been a long time coming…

How annoying is it to have to make it look as if your stickfigure is properly holding something? Having to move both objects at the same time can become tedious…

Well guess what?

Stick Nodes Joining Stickfigures

So in update 1.7.4 – 1.7.5, the new joining feature has been added!

With this feature, you can actually join/connect two stickfigures together! This doesn’t only mean stickfigures can “hold” things now, but it also opens up the possibility for proper layering in animations (for example, have one hand behind something and the other hand in front).

See this video I made for more information on that.

Changelog for 1.7.4 – 1.7.5

  • (1.7.5) Some fixes for joining and tweening issues introduced in 1.7.4.
  • (1.7.4) Joining feature! Look under “Stickfigure Tools”. You can join the main node of a stickfigure to any node of another stickfigure (now stickfigures can “hold” things)!
  • (1.7.4) Added sound “Little Girl Scream” due to requests (Pro only).
  • (1.7.4) Changes to hopefully improve MP4-export stability (Android) (Pro only).

Next up in 1.7.6, some changes to tweening…

New Version (1.7.3) – iOS “V-Cam” Update Released!

So the v-cam update for iOS was actually released about two weeks ago. Surprise!

No but really, it was. I was away at the time and had numerous reports of MP4 exporting not working for users since the update. As a result, I put off making this post until I had things corrected.

That time is now. As of right now, there are updates for iOS Stick Nodes Free and Pro users on the App Store, so check it out and let me know if everything is good.

Stick Nodes iOS

Here are all of the changes that came to iOS in the 1.7.2 and 1.7.3 updates.

  • Major fix for MP4 exporting issue, also added button to use the old method in case any issue is still present (Pro only).
  • Fixed crash when exporting a single-frame looped animation.
  • Some other minor fixes.
  • (1.7.2) V-Cam added! Double-tap to enable Camera Mode.
  • (1.7.2) The “Stop” button now resets zoom to 100% (instead of double-tapping like before).
  • (1.7.2) Added onion skin to v-cam to see where it is in the previous and next frames.
  • (1.7.2) Increased size of the scrollbar for frame thumbnails.
  • (1.7.2) Added background color/image functionality to Create Mode.
  • (1.7.2) Improved MP4 exporting (Pro only).
  • (1.7.2) Added 40+ sounds (Pro only).
  • (1.7.2) Changed FPS limit to 60.
  • (1.7.2) Background images can now scale in the x and y direction.
  • (1.7.2) Increased maximum zoom from 500% to 800%.

Next up?

Well, next I need to get Android users updated to 1.7.3. There won’t be any significant changes from what you guys already have but there will be a few bug fixes and tweaks. My favorite bug on Android right now is exporting an MP4 at a width that isn’t a multiple of 16, it skews the video.

After that I begin work on the next “major” change…
