Whale sharks are the largest fish alive today, theyre one of three filter feeding sharks, with the others being the basking shark, which is the second largest shark, and the megamouth shark, one of the most elusive sharks.
Whale sharks have gill rakers that filter krill and small invertebrates over the gills and into the throat. While the whale sharks mouth can be five feet wide, the throat is only the size of a quarter, so it cannot consume large meals.
Unfortunately, they are endangered due to the impact of fisharies and hunting for oils in their livers and their fine, like many sharks. the spots of the whale shark are camouflage, the spots break up the outline on the shark in the open water.
