In this guys universe, about 1.5 years before the incursion, the primary x-matter mining facility underwent a catastrophic failure, causing the entire mountain to erupt. this acted similarly to how a nuclear bomb would impact an area, causing the immediate area around the mountain to become highly dangerous, while the cities around it, further away, crumbled. the inhabitants of the island were all either killed immediately, or transformed into mindless, irradiated monsters. (think fallout)

Guy was able to survive because his brother, Duke was working at the mining facility a week before the explosion, and was aware of the impending doom. This led to the two quickly relocating to an abandoned, underground bomb shelter built during WW2, only barely avoiding the explosion. After waiting about 2 months underground, living off of the supplies that had been leftover from the shelters previous inhabitants, they run out of edible food. As such, Duke decides to venture out, in search of resources. However, almost as soon as he leaves, with Guy still watching underground, he is overwhelmed by a horde of zombies and killed. Guy goes back into the vault, and builds a grappling gun to escape the hoard, using an old shotgun, a drill motor, some scrap metal, and some old rope. He uses this to leave the shelter, and grapple away from the horde. He is successful in his search for supplies, and he goes back to his brother's old auto shop, where he finds a still functioning go-kart. After spending the next year surviving, constantly running from the horde, in a nuclear wasteland, he finds himself face to face with a giant, 10 foot tall monster. It chases him in his kart throughout the ruins of a city, until Guy accidentally drives off the roof of a parking garage. Mid-air however, he suddenly combusts and then implodes into a black hole. When he comes screeching to a stop in the middle of the same street he was on, he finds the world is no longer in ruin, and there is no monster.
