The transformation all saiyans are born with. This transformation only occurs when a saiyan stares to a full moon. Although, some saiyans managed to tap into this power without one (Specifically DBS Broly during the battle with Vegeta).

This transformation also grants a 10x power boost compaeed to the base stats. However, when a saiyan transform to its great ape state, they'll usually lose control themselves and start wreaking havoc unless properly mastered such as in the case of Vegeta.

While it is prominent in the earlier Dragon Ball series, it was quickly forgotten as the base form is arguably better, the unnecessary giant growth also contributes to this. Asides from much more efficient forms such as kaio-ken (which technically is only a technique) and super Saiyan also taking into place. There's not much of a reason to use the great Ape form in the first place.

Luckily, this form can be stopped by cutting the tail of a Saiyan. Putting an end to it's rampage (if they are even good)
