It depends on what weapon you use when attacking, for how much damage you do. With the real knife, you can actually attack multiple times in a single turn. So there’s variation in that part of combat. And if you don’t hit dead center, you do less damage with your knife. That’s the punishment.
There’s also different attacks each enemy you fight can do. There’s variation and punishment there.
Unlike with Pokémon, where you literally just press a button and do a certain attack, with literally no variation, no way to dodge enemy attacks. It’s very stagnant.
I like turn based games, and they are actively some of my favorite games. Final Fantasy 7 has been a treat to play. I especially love turn based tactical rpgs, like Fire Emblem, taking strategy to complete, and I think that’s neat
