So the v-cam update for iOS was actually released about two weeks ago. Surprise!
No but really, it was. I was away at the time and had numerous reports of MP4 exporting not working for users since the update. As a result, I put off making this post until I had things corrected.
That time is now. As of right now, there are updates for iOS Stick Nodes Free and Pro users on the App Store, so check it out and let me know if everything is good.
Changelog
Here are all of the changes that came to iOS in the 1.7.2 and 1.7.3 updates.
- Major fix for MP4 exporting issue, also added button to use the old method in case any issue is still present (Pro only).
- Fixed crash when exporting a single-frame looped animation.
- Some other minor fixes.
- (1.7.2) V-Cam added! Double-tap to enable Camera Mode.
- (1.7.2) The “Stop” button now resets zoom to 100% (instead of double-tapping like before).
- (1.7.2) Added onion skin to v-cam to see where it is in the previous and next frames.

- (1.7.2) Added background color/image functionality to Create Mode.
- (1.7.2) Improved MP4 exporting (Pro only).
- (1.7.2) Added 40+ sounds (Pro only).

Next up?
Well, next I need to get Android users updated to 1.7.3. There won’t be any significant changes from what you guys already have but there will be a few bug fixes and tweaks. My favorite bug on Android right now is exporting an MP4 at a width that isn’t a multiple of 16, it skews the video.
After that I begin work on the next “major” change…

And then i silently go back into nowhere
Get out of my house.
But it’s cold outside
Put on a coat.
Fine but only because I was going to do it anyway
Great. Now you’ve gone and scared Thane away for another month.
Haha the one half of my phone’s screen stoped working can’t touch next frame anymore any suggestions for a new phone
Well since iOS < Android, and the only good Android phones are the pure Android phones from Google, I'd have to say anything from the Nexus series, specifically the Nexus 5X or the Nexus 6P.
Do it.
Its like you read my mind pure android all the way hate all the bloatware you get with other devices but what about Motorola basically stock android and gets updates relatively quick, iOS sucks ass
Yeah the bloatware, exactly.
I don’t have much experience with non-Nexus phones, but I have had some hands-on with some “high-end” ones (not sure which, some Samsung ones). While they still are very fast and responsive, there’s still the apps and stuff you can’t get rid of which personally I can’t stand.
I feel any phone that isn’t a Nexus will have this bloatware issue, but apparently it’s bearable if the phone itself isn’t a piece of doo doo (is fast).
Hey Ralph is this normal or nah?
when i”m exporting my animation (1200+Frames),
It crashed the app :/
like uhhhh….. When it reached 50% it CRASHED
so can you fixed this in the next update or it will remain like that for a while?
Kaido stop breaking stuff.
No but seriously, this depends on stuff.
Sorry for the bombardment of questions, also if I’ve asked you them before.
What device and what operating system and version of operating system?
(If it’s iOS, does this crash with the new AND old MP4 methods?)
What happens if you make the output resolution much smaller, for example just 200 x 150?
Do you mean what version is my phone? or the app?
idk i never used that size before
Well, both I suppose. I hope you’re using the latest version of the app, but what do you use to animate on (iOS or Android, and which version of iOS or Android?).
Also which device (iPhone 5S, etc, for example)?
And if you can, please do try to export at such a small resolution, if it doesn’t work at a small resolution that narrows down the possible issues.
Sorry for all of the questions, I just need all the information I can get or else I don’t know where to start looking to figure out the issue.
I’m using Android
My android version is 4.4.2
MyPhone Agua Rio
I’m using the latest version stick nodes
Hmm, okay. So you’re using the new MP4 export method since your Android version is new enough.
When this crash occurs, does Android prompt you with a message to “send report” (or something similar) to the developer? If so, please do that, as it will provide me with more information.
Do you have enough space left on your phone? If you’re nearing the limit, the app may crash as it’s creating the large video file (1200 frames, with tweening 3600, is a large video).
Thanks for telling me about the frames i forgot that it adds extra frames when tweening.
I have enough space for my animations
But thanks :3
SN Desktop!
Hi, Ive upgraded to pro, but can’t open the projects I made in the free app. I use this on an iPad – how do I do this!!??!! HELP!!!!!
This is only a thing on iOS, since on Android the Free and Pro version share the same folder.
You need to open iTunes with your device connected and go into your device, then click “Apps”, then go down to “File Sharing”.
From there, click “Stick Nodes” and copy/save everything there to your desktop (or wherever), then click “Stick Nodes Pro” and paste/move everything you just saved into that folder.
Basically just moving everything from “Stick Nodes” to “Stick Nodes Pro”.
in the next update (especially for Android) can you make a separate tween option for the v-cam. when I’m not using the tween option the v-cam was all jittery it’s not so smooth. and also add a ‘don’t tween this frame’ option for the v-cam too for the switch/multiple cam effect to work (if you know what i mean). sorry for my broken english. thanks.
Thats best idea ever,
Ralph add this
Ralph (A.K.A devoloper): Do you guys dont know f*cking mobile limits, i will ban you.
learn non tweening :V
No.
down with tween :V
Tween for forever.
Hi there.
I don’t think I can have it where just the V-cam tweens, it can’t work like that since, for example, for 5 frames of actual non-tweened stickfigure frames, there would be 15 frames of tweened camera movement.
How would these 5 and 15 frames align?
Anyway, the “Do not tween this frame” checkbox is exactly that, it also applies to the v-cam right? So by checking that box right before the scene-switch frame, you’ll get the desired effect where the camera doesn’t tween over to its new position.
also add a 4 directional tool button for precise v-cam positioning.
to avoid a unintentional shaky cam feel to it. please ralph
This is actually an interesting idea, not only for the camera but for stickfigures too. I’ll put it on my list of stuff to look into.
