Thousands of lives were killed on 9/11 as a result of a hijacking of 3 planes. People to this day die from the effects caused by the destruction of the 2 towers.
Making jokes about this makes you look stupid, and ungrateful.
I know it is basic but it is good for a distanced view. Please do me a favor and not make a joke with the item, instead, make a recreation of the events maybe.

Or to say it more clearly, humour is a coping mechanism, it gives us the ability to talk about uncomfortable subject matters that would otherwise be taboo.
