Never understood how a gun blade would be either possible and work.

They do “exist”, but it would need to be more gun than sword, so a gun with a really long bayonet

As pistols, not swords. And those a more of a bayonet with the guns handle built to be easy to swing from, so gun swords with the blade and the barrel do not exist nor are possible due to how thick the blade would be in relation to caliber.
