Here’s a quote from Eric Kripke, the showrunner.
For context, he’s addressing the same “coherent plot” complaint you just made.“But apparently, just because it’s not plot, you’re like, ‘Nothing happened!’ I’m like, ‘Nothing happened, what?’” added Kripke. “The craziest, biggest moves happened. It just wasn’t someone shooting someone else and going, pew, pew, pew. And if that’s what you want, you’re just watching the wrong show.”

Season 4 was the worst one imo but had good moments
Season 5 was good in its own right but lacked the payoff that the last 4 seasons were building upon and had character assassinations and plotholes
