Pretty mid tbh. Didn’t go outside today and had a mediocre workout. Other than that fine. Finished the first part of my Red Hood piece, did some comic reading, and came up with a new plan for animations. Tomorrow im locked in again!
Well I will get into further detail on this in a future How to Draw post, but here’s some quick basics.
First, get your hair shapes down. Draw a basic large shape that silhouettes the hairstyle you want. Put down a point where you that hair to come from on the head. Draw large simple shapes that come out of that point. Once you have the idea done, erase lightly and refine the hair, make sure that it isn’t too strand like, as hair works in formed sections that make a shape together.
Select a new layer under the sketch and fill in the hair with a color, something not too bright or dark (Depends on the color hair you want) Now use an airbrush or paintbrush and turn up the size of it. Use this brush to make sections of shine with a brighter color than the base. The shine will circle around the shape of the hair and be spaced between each other.
Now grab something like a marker brush and use the base color to make strokes into the highlights. Try making the highlights look like a wave from each point. Now use a darker color to place shadows where weight would be, usually the part and under other sections of hair.
Best of all, use a reference. Whether it’s a cell shaded cartoon, or a real person, it’ll work better than most of what I said. Good luck
