I honestly don’t know what to think about this, it’s like that stimulating “GeN Z MuSiC FoRmAt” (kinda) mixed with… I guess a more authentic sound?? I don’t know it’s incredibly unique.

The fact I took a Russian song and put a Western spin on it is so god damn amazing I just know for a fact Viktor Tsoi’s spirit is proud of me.
I will die on the hill of “Everyone Should Listen to my Niche ass Russian Music” because of him, and Kino.

Not gonna lie I’m probably banned from Russia now because they probably mixed up their “Westerns”. Poor bastards.

Anyways, Kino contributed so significantly to the Russian music scene that they literally made a mark INTERNATIONALLY, mind you ALSO DURING THE TIME WHERE THE SOVIET GOVERNMENT COLLAPSED, Y’KNOW!! THE THING!!!!

THEY MADE A SONG WITH A MESSAGE SO STRONG AGAINST THE SOVIET/RUSSIAN MILITARY THAT IT IS BANNED FROM BEING PERFORMED TO THIS DAY. Holy SHIT.

it should be MANDATORY for anyone who gives even the slightest shit about music to know about them.

Their music really set a tone for how the common people felt during those moments, and it is essentially a historical screenshot. One that also transcends that era, and can even be applied to… *eh em* many, many things… that have happened since, *shuffling papers* . since then.

Another one that I’ve posted before, but, I’m posting it mostly because it shows some historical context, it hard to tell at times, but it includes footage of the (1993) Russian constitutional crisis, you see that opening shot with the guy throwing that paper? And the following shots with the military? That’s the Russian Army raiding the Parliament.

Why?
BORIS YELTSIN.
Yeltsin, *eh em* did things such as.. dissolving legislature, and well, called for new elections among many other things. And what did the Parliament do? The parliament responded by impeaching Yeltsin, Which effectively soft locked it (the Parliament) into place. to put it simply.

Tensions were ridiculously high. and ugh gotta say it again, THE PARLEMENT, was getting restricted more and more as time went on.

And after days of mounting tension and protests,
the standoff became violent on October 3rd.

Pro-parliament demonstrators clashed with police and attempted to storm the Ostankino television center. (Which for context, is the main broadcasting center for all of Russia. Even to this day.)

And, On October 4th,
the army declared its support for Yeltsin.
And military tanks shelled the Parlement.
Special forces stormed the building.
and then, they arrested leaders of the resistance.

The conflict (which only lasted 10 days) was the deadliest street fighting in Moscow since the 1917 October Revolution.

Official government figures reported 147 killed and 437 wounded.
(but other estimates placed the death toll much higher.)

Many historians have called this “Black October, 1993”.

And as Yeltsin consolidated power, *eh em*. by banning opposing groups, *Lightly sips glass of water*.

He also pushed through a new constitution, approved by referendum in December 1993. which created a ‘strong’ presidential system and weakened legislative authority.

Some believe this paved the way for the authoritarianism that would emerge under Vladimir Putin. *Eh em* *Slowly chugs entirely cup of water*
