This very same day, just about 54 years ago, was born one of the most influential rappers to ever hit the underground hip-hop scene.
DANIEL DUMILE
(Pronunced Doo-me-lay) also known as MF DOOM.
Dumile was born in July 13th in London and raised in Long Beach, New York. He began his career in 1988 as a member of the trio KMD, performing as Zev Love X. The group disbanded in 1993 after the death of DJ Subroc, Dumile’s brother. After a hiatus, Dumile reemerged in the late 1990s. He began performing at open mic events while wearing a metal maskof the Marvel supervillain Doctor Doom, who is depicted on the cover of his 1999 debut solo album Operation: Doomsday. He adopted the MF Doom persona and rarely made unmasked public appearances thereafter.
“Ever since the womb till I’m back where my brother went
That’s what my tomb will say
Right above my government, Dumile
Either unmarked or engraved, hey, who’s to say?”
