So… That was kinda quick. Now, time for a slight history lesson and no, this isn’t Marvel Godzilla or Hanna-Barbera Godzilla.
This Godzilla is or rather was from Steve Miner’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters in 3D pitch, originally scheduled for release in 1983. Had this movie gotten made, not only would it have been the first American film adaption of Godzilla but were it to have been a hit, it would’ve been followed up with a Rodan movie. A full script is online for you to go check out along with concept art, statues, and storyboards but if you don’t wanna read more than you are already are, Wikipedia has a summary of the script.
As for why this movie was cancelled, Miner couldn’t find any studio willing to back the $30 Million budget due to Goji’s reputation as a “Kid’s Franchise” at the time and eventually, he gave up and let the rights revert to Toho.
I honestly love this goji and this isn’t the first time I’ve approached this design as you’ll see below. As for Hanna-Barbera’s take, I’ll probably make him after 84Goji.
