More than half of the country consists of highlands with an elevation exceeding 1,000 meters. The average elevation of Turkey is 1,141 meters. Approximately one-third is covered with medium-height plains, plateaus and mountains, and 10% is covered with lowlands. The highest and mountainous areas are located in the eastern part, and generally the army serves in the east and south, and instead of tanks, choppers are used in the mountainous areas, one of the main examples of this is the famous Beşparmak tank whose tracks broke off on Beşparmak Mountain in Cyprus.
