I just find it somewhat impossible for a horde to destroy a tank.
Even if it is immobilized and surrounded by a horde of tanks, the crew can remain inside, either hermetically sealed or partially open (with openings for machine guns and some sensors). Therefore, the hatch is extremely difficult to open because it is sealed.
To me I assumed the crew left the hatch open, likely the commander viewing out and got inevitably dragged but we will find out once MGFRegiment tells us.
You are right, Royal Nation. The Commander left the hatch opened but (SPOILER ALERT) That infected MGF was able to remember how to open a hatch! But the commander left the hatch opened giving no time for crew to close it
