blink’s new album was mid. better than the one before it but that isn’t saying a lot. hurts a little to say that because they’re a band i really like but that’s just how i feel.
Anthem part 3 was the one i have been waiting for it wondering of it was going to come. Blink’s new album was a,little mid but still pretty good.
my issue wasn’t with the songs themselves particularly, most of them were fine (my personal standouts were the title track, more than you know, anthem part three, and turpentine) but what killed the album in my eyes was the production and mixing. usually im not too much a stickler on that kind of stuff but the whole record sounded so synthetic and overblown it was almost unlistenable at times.
i feel like pop-punk as a genre is one that’s way out of its prime as most of its biggest players have jumped ship already. paramore abandoned it in favor of post punk/dance punk (though they’ve always been more genre-fluid), panic at the disco disbanded earlier this year, sum 41 is disbanding soon, list goes on. even mgk, the guy commonly accredited to “reviving” the genre already fucked off the scene and returned to making rap music. the whole “new wave” of pop punk is still going somewhat with bands like waterparks, and also with the aid of the when we were young festival, but i don’t think it’s gonna last. i give it about five years at most before the genre is left by the wayside and whatever comes next will take its place.
i doubt anyone cares enough to read this, or even knows what the fuck im talking about, but whatever, these are my thoughts.
idk any of their shit except those like 1 or 2 songs everybody knows
i should check them out tho and see what’s cooking
I know what songs (all the small things and whats my age again)
