Anyone have any tips for what makes a good fight animation? I’ve always wanted to make one but choreography and stuff like that has never really been my forte. If anything though, I should probably plan it out first
I’m not that great at fights either. Mainly just close combat because I don’t know how to do counter attacks. One thing they told me is that you should do the hitting frames first so that way you know what to animate before you even do it.
heckray, for example, i’ve seen the way he works on complex scenes
he basically makes an animatic (google it for reference pics etc) of the scene
so it’s basically just a slideshow, of all the key frames/moments
that helps him set the pacing and timing, along with things like the camera position etc…then he goes back and fills in all the moments in between
in my experience, you kinda just fu*k around with it until the fight don’t look jank

Yeah, doing key frames first does sound like a good idea
choreography as you mentioned is the key
