Mellow Complains About Something or whatever-You know, there’s a good chance that someone has taken this pack and tried to distribute it through discord servers without my knowledge. Or, they tried to make a “giveaway” on YT, taking some mouths and compiling them with others or something, and adding a few other figures to go along with it. I don’t like the idea of people trying to capitalise on my own successes when they haven’t put in any work at all. I suspect the same thing could’ve happened to my last pack too.
Is it really worth calling it a success though? I guess 4,000 is a lot, but it’s nothing compared to the numbers people got before. 2,000 or something was average back then, and now people barely pass 500. You know what I think the problem is?
Exclusivity. You no longer need to come to this site and get whatever figures or effects you desire, when you can just search on YT for a crappy little giveaway or join a discord server and check out #figdownloads or whatever they decide to call the channel, if they even have it. If they don’t, you can simply join another one.
Now, you might be saying “Mellow, that doesn’t sound like exclusivity. In fact, it just sounds more like an increase in options.” And you’d be right, there are more places to take figures from.
But, do you really have more options if you have to go out of your way to join a server just to get some QUALITY (keyword: quality) stickfigures, since all the good figuremakers have long since migrated from this site and would much rather give out their stuff elsewhere. Do you really have more options when THIS is the quality of the stuff you receive these days?
In an ironic twist, it’s easier (arguably, better) for you to join servers and search for figures there or look, rather than relying on the figure page.
But it’s not so much about the quality. It’s the fact that people just don’t go there anymore, and I don’t understand why. If they aren’t getting stickfigures from there, then where are they getting them from? That’s what confuses me. Even though I just said what I think the reason is, I highly doubt that’s everything to do with it. Are people improving as a whole? Do they no longer feel like they’re forced to rely on someone else’s figures? Where do these video giveaways even get the figures from anyway, because they obviously ALL can’t be their own or else they’d all be low effort figures.
I made a movieclip of the mouths for easy access and gave it to the person who requested the pack, and I allowed them to distribute it on the basis that it would be made clear that I was the one who created the pack. This was “secured” through me adding my emblem to the pack, but considering that I’m only a little popular on the site, this was a mistake. The more that pack gets passed on, the more dilluted it’ll be and the more chance there is of people just taking it for themselves. Whatever problem there is, I definitely added to it.
This depreciation of the figure page feels… inevitable, in retrospect. I don’t think there’s much that can be done, or if you can even consider calling it a true problem. This is slightly off-topic, but when SN PC eventually comes out, I feel that it’ll be a proper reignition of the community in many ways, especially the figure page.
Now that SN would be open to a whole new group of people, the community would be able to properly sustain itself with an influx of amateurs almost constantly coming in. To me at least, it feels this way. We’d have to accommodate for the sudden growth though, especially with the activity page. We’re now so used to seeing the same similar faces every few hours that a bunch of new folks coming along would take some getting used to. At least Gigan would get some new people to bully or whatever it is that he does.
Maybe the figure page will be good again by then.

HAH, I DID IT BEFORE ANYONE ELSE COULD!

TL;DRHmm, my MelodySense™️ tells me that people are distributing my 4000 downloads critically acclaimed mouth pack illegally…
Hey, ever notice how figures before got WAY more downloads than figures now? Like, seriously. 2000 was average back then, but now people don’t even get 500 all that often. Also the quality of the figure page right now is fucking ass lmao. I think it’s the increase in ways to distribute figures that’s killing it, and all the good figure makers moved towards those methods, but idk… SN PC might fix all this when it comes around, at least that’s my hope
Me personally like reading long paragraphs instead of the watered down less detailed ones. I kinda feel like the paragraphs intrigue me more, get my attention more, and make me feel more personally connected with the topic. That’s just me though, I understand why TLDR exist
I don’t know what you are talking about Cursed Minion is the peak of stickfigure creation the site has ever seen.
Seriously though, this was a nice (Albeit, ridiculously long) way of bringing up this topic. I have noticed it myself as well, comparing the downloads of older, even less quality submissions to the average downloads to the best submissions today, and like you said, you can definitely see a difference. And I can see how the re-distribution of people’s stickfigures through sites like discord without permission can be a issue (Though personally myself don’t really give a shit). Can’t wait to see the discussions about this topic inevitably following as people notice this post.
I should probably make a tl;dr
If Sticknodes was popular, why did they migrate? Was it to get personal attention or clout by having so many people watching their own channel/on their discord, or did they feel they surpassed the need for this site and moved on to bigger things. This is what confuses me. If 2,000 was the average, that was a lot of people to get attention from, which I feel should’ve stopped them from migrating. Unless their channel/discord offered more attention then this community.
That’s another thing. I honestly wonder if this is because SN might have decreased in popularity
Or maybe it isn’t SN itself, but its website
Yah I feel like Sticknodes it’s self is getting more popular, but the website is decreasing in popularity. Especially since mediafire allows movie clips, which most people are posting nowadays, so they won’t use the website.
I agree, but to be honest I feel like after a while it goes from disappointment to another Monday. Yes, I get what you mean, and yes, I’ve seen this before but…it’s nothing new. You know, I decided not to submit the new Max for this and other reasons. Just seems like the site’s stick-figure page isn’t really all oohs and aahs. Now, this doesn’t mean that this should be tolerated but, what can you do…
Needless to say, yeah it’s pretty shitty, especially when these users put their heart and souls into something for it to be taken so lightly.
something i been noticing people doing lately is doing part of their pack on the website and then something like “for more / for the rest, go to my channel youtube.com/etc”
which is smart (as long as whats on the site is legit and not just a single arm of a dude or smth) because it gets your channel traffic
anyway, one major factor is there’s just more stickfigures nowadays
people come and search “mouth” and instead of 10 or 20 there’s like 100, 200 results
so downloads are more evenly distributed
Damn, that makes sense. Maybe I should do the same with my own submissions too-
can u update the stick figure file limit to like 50 or something or is their a reason why its so low at 30?
Pretty sure the likely reason why newer figures get less downloads is because newer people are just more inclined to sort by most downloaded for any effects they need, not really things like exclusivity to discord or youtube and all that stuff. I do know a lot of good figure makers who prefer to keep their stuff in discord but they never give their files away to others in the first place to keep them from getting overused, so it can likely contribute but not as much towards the less download count.
If people need a figure, they just sort by most downloaded and find a good one to use, they don’t really go out of their way to download more unless they’re looking for something really specific, which most new users don’t do anyway in the first place
I don’t really think it’s a problem because to be honest I don’t really care but sometimes when you’re dealing with an app that has a heavy market towards kids who barely know how to animate you kinda have to get used to situations like these, whether you like it or not
Basically, older figures got more downloads overtime, leading to a bigger download count, leading to more people downloading it because of the bigger download count, then repeat. Not much to it, really.
true @ the most-downloaded thing, i didn’t think of that, definitely a factor too
