There’s this video of some dude who actually thought the same way you did, and after some research he made a video explaining undertale and its expansive fandom the best way he could (It’s 30 minutes, but it’s actually really interesting considering I used to be apart of that undertale fandom for quite a while).
He explains undertale as a ‘a deep wailing abyss’
