So the plant is a bit of a sentry/surveillance system which can grow on normal and demonized terrain, which will alert nearby demons/animals etc, to the intruder in a place of high importance. Upon death the plant will immediately shriek in the voice of a loved one, taking their shape temporarily as an illusion before disintegrating.

i like the Demonic Sludge thought the plants are too innocent looking. maybe give them eye stalks or a disturbing colour pattern or shape.
