I doubt you’d be able to sway him from the decision he is going to make, if it is good quality it’ll get accepted, if it is not good quality it won’t get accepted, even if it did take time. I could take a year making a painting for an art completion, but if it isn’t good, it won’t win.

look through the stickfigures (specifically in your case, of custom OC characters) on the /stickfigures/ page to get an idea of the level of quality necessary to get approved
remember it needs to be something for a wide audience to find fun or interesting to use, well-made, or funny
yours was the typical type of thing everyone first makes when they get SN, gradient abuse, and you were trying to go for a 360 view but to be honest none of the perspectives looked like the same character
tl;dr you need more practice, but everyone starts somewhere
