New Version (2.5.9 – 2.6.0) – The Color Picker Update

Edit March 10th – The below update is now out for Android. Android users won’t see much different, just brings the version numbers to be the same but as it says below, the color picker now has a “refresh” button.

Edit March 8th –Well that was fast. The update for IOS is now available on the App Store.

Changelog (2.6.0)

  • Color picker now has a “refresh” button to prevent it from constantly taking a new screenshot of the screen (causing a second or two of lag).
Will now only refresh if the button is pressed
  • (IOS) Fixed squished app glitch when returning from selecting a background image

Same update as below, but I changed the way the color picker works (Android getting it later today).

Also seem to have fixed the squished glitch when coming out of selecting a background image.

I *might* have re-introduced that iOS 8 bug that didn’t allow SN to open, so anyone with IOS 8 please do let me know if SN still works right.

Sorry for letting you down, no hilariously clever nickname for this update.

Alright let’s just get on with it and show off the changelog.

Changelog (2.5.9)

  • Color picker has been added to the color window
  • You can now copy all of a stickfigure’s properties and paste onto another
  • Improved anti-aliasing appearance
  • Textfields can now scale to 10
  • When submitting a pack, you can now rename the files for better organization
  • Many new sounds, search “259” in sound import menu to find them (Pro only)
  • Many bug fixes involving right-triangle flipping, smart-stretch, delayed animation playing, and more
  • Added a period to the “Typo Round” font

So obviously, the big one that everyone wanted, a color picker has been added to the color window. Tap the button and drag around to sample the color below the cursor.

Copy-pasting stickfigure properties can be useful where, for example, if you’re animating a multi-stickfigure flame across numerous frames, you can easily copy-paste the scale/filters/position of each flame stickfigure to the next one.

Anti-aliasing should no longer show those lines sometimes visible in exports, also in general I think I made it look a little better.

When submitting a stickfigure, a window pops up showing off some rules and guidelines. Some of you may like that… Also, when submitting a pack, you’re given a chance to clean up the file names before they’re placed in the ZIP file. You will be expected to take the time to make sure your file names are neat or suffer dire consequences…

Oh, and that right-triangle flipping bug is fixed. And other bugs.

And then the other new things…Textfields can get BIG. There’s a lot of new sounds (over 60). And that one font finally has a “.” character now.

Jeez it took the same amount of time to write this post as it did to code up this update leave me alone now thanks.

New Version (2.5.6 – 2.5.8) – The Shapes, Shapes Everywhere Update

Edit February 3rd – This update is finally out for IOS after Apple decided to delay it over a hissy fit concerning Stick Nodes promotional screenshots on the App Store.

PS Android > Apple

Changelog (2.5.8) (IOS)

  • All changes below
  • Fixed importing ZIP files on the Free version
  • Fixed loading background images being distorted

Edit February 2nd – I was intending on this announcement being for both iOS and Android, but the iOS release was halted by some Apple employee today because – gasp – Goku appears in some screenshots (as he has since 2014 when the app was released).

I’m appealing this decision right now but in the meantime, here’s the likely “final” update in these series of updates for Android.

Changelog (2.5.8)

  • Fixed Auto Camera not performing linear interpolation if “Ease in” and “Ease out” were unchecked
  • (Android) Implemented *potential* fix for stickfigures/files being deleted. Potential. This is still due to third-party apps (like CCleaner, etc) that delete “junk” files. Uninstall any apps like that you may have.

Again, hope to be on iOS any day/hour/second now…

Edit January 31st – Some quick bug fixes!

Changelog (2.5.7)

  • Bug fix, trapezoid “Top ratio” text box didn’t work.
  • Added toggle to the “Paste segment” button to allow for old/new behavior (preserves copied visual angle or not).
  • Added detection for “Out of Memory” error when opening projects, instead of crashing the app will now yell at you.

Working on this update for iOS right now.

Well, I’m typing this right now but you get what I mean.

Oh boy it’s finally that time, after a solid week of working nonstop, the next update is out. What was originally going to be a quick patch to get Android users up to par with their iOS counterparts ended up being quite the major overhaul of the shape-rendering system.

But this is good news for you, because now you got some new shapes AND gradients that make sense.

Changelog (2.5.6)

  • New shapes – ellipses, trapezoids, right-triangles, and polygons! Check the new “Shape Tools” menu when in Creation Mode.
  • Circle gradients are now actually gradients. New separate “circle outline” property added to retain backwards compatibility.
  • New auto-camera easing settings – bounce, swing, and elastic.
  • Pasting a segment (in Creation Mode) now retains direction correctly.
  • Bug fix for frame delay.
  • Bug fix for wrong screen orientation after loading image.
  • Some bug and crash fixes regarding background images.

So it’s pretty self-explanatory, you got new shapes.

Some shapes now have properties, like Circles and Ellipses. There’s a new menu “Shape Tools” when in Creation Mode where the selected shape’s properties will be shown, such has “Half Arc” (half of a circle/ellipse) and “Vertices” (for the number of corners of the polygon, 5 -> 16).

Circle gradients now behave as expected, with a radial gradient from the center. Old stickfigures will retain the “outline” effect by utilizing the new circle-only property of “Outline color”.

Also, some bug fixes. I hate them and they almost caused me to rage quit (read: I did rage quit) but they’re fixed now.

Okay I’m done. I have a massive stickfigure backlog to get through.

PS this update will be out for iOS users very soon!

New Version (2.5.1 – 2.5.5) – The “Happy New Year” Update

Edit January 24 – IOS finally gets the update from below, plus some specific IOS-only tweaks.

Changelog (2.5.5) (IOS)

  • Bug fix, (IOS) loading some backgrounds would come out distorted, or crash.

ONCE AGAIN, ANDROID WILL BE ON 2.5.5 SOON.

Edit January 22 – IOS finally gets the update from below, plus some specific IOS-only tweaks.

Changelog (2.5.4) (IOS)

  • Bug fix, (IOS) PNG files would not be transparent.
  • Bug fix, (IOS) some sound URLs would not work with the STKNDS:// method.

Android will be updating to 2.5.4 soon with a minor fix to not crash if background image loading fails.

Edit January 16 – Just some bug fixes! Oh, and background images can now be loaded at higher resolution. Coming to IOS in a couple days.

Changelog (2.5.3)

  • Background images can now be loaded at higher quality
  • Bug fix, opening a project at a percentage would sometimes crash since 2.5.1
  • Bug fix, rare crash when opening projects
  • Bug fix, background image loading failed sometimes

Edit January 9 – This update is now released for iOS users as well, with only one addition.

Changelog (2.5.2) (IOS)

  • IOS 8 users should be able to use the app again

Edit January 7 – Version 2.5.2 is now released with some quick fixes, and also a change to Smart-Stretch.

Changelog (2.5.2)

  • Bug fix, (Android) ZIP imports were borked for some users.
  • Locked stickfigure nodes are no longer selectable when not visible, also joined-and-locked stickfigure nodes are visible again.
  • Smart-stretch changed, no longer do children nodes need to be “stretchy”.

As for Smart-Stretch, the change is simple. Children nodes of a Smart-Stretch node do not need to be marked stretchy anymore. (They do still need to be static, a dynamic node will not Smart-Stretch.)

If you want to mark a child node, or group of children nodes, to not go along with the stretching, there is a new checkbox to “Do not smart-stretch” which will do that.

This update will be coming to iOS any day now.

Kind of a lame name for the update but whatever I come up with them on the spot.

This update was meant as just some quick fixes, but a couple new things were added, here’s the full changelog.

Changelog (2.5.1)

  • Added PNG export.
  • Added some new fonts.
  • Zoom, position, current frame, guidlines are now saved when saving a project.
  • Locked stickfigures hide all nodes except main node, to clear clutter.
  • Minigame difficulty slightly tweaked
  • Smart-stretch now just ignores non-stretchy children rather than completely stopping the stretching at that point
  • Bug fix, tweening smart-stretch sometimes didn’t work.
  • Bug fix, (Android) problems some users were having opening ZIP files.
  • Bug fix, (Android) problem some users were having loading background images.
  • Bug fix, (Android) static nodes were moveable when testing smart-stretch.

So a few new fonts and PNG exporting are the two main additions here. Both kinda neat, and both allow you to use SN to make pretty cool art instead of just animations.

This update will be coming to iOS very shortly, it’s nearly ready. It will also fix an iOS 8-only bug where SN wouldn’t open at all.

Okay bye.
