Humor is inapplicable to this animation, so I won’t critique it.
Because this is the first episode and is setting the plot, storyline is less prevalent so I will not focus on it too much.
Wow. This is a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one. This series episode was very enjoyable and had a lot of quality to it. The animation movements themselves, though owing most of their quality to tween, are passable, but aren’t anything particularly special or advanced. I actually am having a hard time rating it because of the quality here. The detail is very commendable, and the transformers themselves are very well-designed. In particular, the combination animation of the transformers was very impressive and well-done. Also, the voice acting itself is surprisingly decent, though that can be owed to the filters. However, voices are much too quiet and are drowned out by the music quite a bit. The effects are decent enough but not exceptional in any right. However, the pacing is also fairly well done, except for the very end where explosions come out of nowhere. Even though this is the first episode, not many names are introduced, and we don’t really see any distinct personalities or character building. There weren’t many dynamic angles (and I’m sure that’s because animating detail figures in angles is a pain), but the animator worked well with what they had in the usage of the background to give off depth illusions. However, sometimes the background can often clutter the visuals and provide confusing views. Impact is occasionally presented but is often lacking. I’m happy to say I enjoyed this work quite a bit. With more work on characters, effects, overall animation movement, angles, sound, and lighting, this could honestly be a wonder to the SN community. It has a bit to work on, but nails what it currently has. It would be a 4/5 for sure if one of these things I have mentioned was tuned a bit.
Despite there not being much in terms of story in this first episode, this really is something that has a lot of potential and has me impressed. The visuals are well done with angles being used with good use of illusions for the 2D environment this is built up off of. The setting being a war torn robotic planet is done amazingly. The animation isn’t particularily as strong part of this but it is done well enough that I can say it gets the job done. There is so much variety and detail put into scenes and characters. Unnamed/side characters are even given their unique details. Mad respect for that. The story doesn’t hold much but it is explained well for a half episode what is going on and what they need to do. Some problems that do hold this back is the management in sound with music being too loud and dialogue being far too quiet. There is also lacking animation to impress the viewer and some much needed enhancements to the effects. But this one is very impressive.
4/5
