Story and Humor are inapplicable to this animation, so I won’t critique them.
Wow, didn’t expect this in the slightest with the intro, but this is a pretty good hidden gem. I’m even glad I became aware of this animation because of the spotlight. It was very enjoyable. I’ll list off the pros and cons.
Cons: The animation itself suffers from quite a bit of edge. Some of it is understandable since it’s literally a dude fighting his dark version of himself, but it can be too on the nose about it. The dialogue could use improvement as well, and some of it interrupts the flow of the fight. This fight also takes quite a lot of inspiration from Gildedguy Vs. Bog, even to where the final scene is nearly frame-for-frame copied. Taking inspiration from Gildedguy is fine, but copying like that and owing too much to that source is just stealing. The ending also ended rather anticlimactically, even with the Gildedguy scenes. The power-up scene made it look like something much more was going to happen, rather than just the guy raising his sword and everything going to white. The animation itself can be stiff at times, and the start of the fight is pretty slow with not enough dynamic angles. It improves over time but starts off a bit rough. Various other animation errors, odd effects, and all the like appear through the rest of the animation as well. And the whole reloading sniper scenario, though nicely animated, wasn’t necessary for the fight.
Pros: I don’t think I’ve seen an animation with this consistent pacing in SN in a loooong while. There are some moments, granted, but the good majority of the fight itself is very well done, and it can clearly be seen. The animation isn’t even that spectacular compared to some of the higher quality stuff seen in the community, but the pacing just sells it, and this is a great example of how simple pacing can make even a normal animation rise above others. The dynamic angles that are featured really contribute to the animation, and this is an overall very solid fight to watch. The music is also pretty sweet to listen to. Music choices for fights are actually very important, and using this piece was a good choice. Yea, that may have been taken from Gildedguy Vs. Bog, but it’s still a good piece. Sometimes, people don’t need a complicated story-based project. All ya need is just watching two people beat each other up. This animation understands that and goes full throttle with this concept. It may not be the most well-written, it may not be the best animation, it may not be any of that, but I’ll be damned if it isn’t entertaining to watch. Just turn your brain off and let the show go on the road. If you don’t like that kind of content, this won’t be for you, but if you want a consistent fight with characters that aren’t whiny or spend too much time talking and being babies, this is a good one.
Overall, some animation problems, straight-up copying at the end, edge, and occasional bits of dialogue, and lack of other stylizations bring down this animation a bit, but it is a very consistent and fun fight to watch, and I recommend it to anyone if they just would like to sit back and see something fun.
This was nice. Now it was really rough in animation in some areas but it was really good once you got going on this. This entire animation is full of action. And steps into different animation focuses that many animators don’t explore. One example being the FPS animation and the weapon animation in general. Now the use of certain things like the diamond sword were pretty out of place, but man this is something that inspires me. This was very enjoyable to watch. The buildup at the start was very good too. I would rate a 4, but the flaws with inconsistency and the odd voice acting which doesn’t match the dialogue shown and doesn’t even show up some of the time kinda pulls away from this. But I certainly would give it a high 3/5.
