I’ve watched the entirety of Apocalypse, and all I have to say is wow. That was really good. I’ll start with the cons instead of the pros this time.

Cons:
While this series has a ton of lore and detail behind it, it can often be overwhelming in sequences. The term “exposition dump” is often a good way to describe how the animation approaches storylines. Characters often have way too much to say, and I think the series would be much better off by showing rather than telling for some aspects. Firefights sometimes aren’t as intense as they could be, and dynamic/dramatic angles aren’t as explored as they could be to heighten tension. Though the dialogue is extensive, it often interrupts the flow and pacing of the scenes themselves, as characters take long pauses to speak simple sentences before moving to fast gunfights. The backstory is decently explained but could honestly be improved upon for some aspects and made in a more approachable way. Personalities of characters aren’t really recognizable, and they still have the syndrome of “any line could match any character.” That still is forgivable since these characters are tough army men, but more could be done to make them more distinct as characters besides visuals. Backgrounds could also be touched upon for improvement as well.

Pros:
What this series gets right, it gets really right. What I found especially unique was the use of visuals to make characters look distinct. Though their personalities may be not as developed, the animator’s decision in terms of design is honestly great. Each character has the look of an army soldier, but they have little tells to show who they are and how they look different from everyone else, such as different visors, skin colors, helmets, and more. Aiden himself is honestly a great protagonist, and while he doesn’t have that many character-defining traits except “tough army guy”, he does his job well as the main protagonist of the group. The gunfights, while not too stylized, serve their purposes well, and they certainly improve towards the end of the series. The build-up to the ending, while not as good as it could have been, was still very great. The ending of the series definitely could have been more impactful rather than just being a text dump, but it still honestly was cool.

My first impression was a 4/5, but after looking back at things, though I want to give it that, I still have to settle with a very high 3/5. There are some very clear issues with the series and the exposition dumps and long dialogue times really conflict with the series and the ending in particular, but that doesn’t stop the series itself from being very good. It is definitely worth the watch, bugs and all, and I recommend it if you’re interested in a good SN series.

Very High 3/5.

I agree that theres definitely a load of exposition dumps used. I’m gonna try my best to tone them down a little. And this has been said before that there is too much telling. There needs to be more showing especially in a series like this. Personalities are also something that where never looked into early on, then by episode 6, I realized, that’s an important part missing. After episode 6 I tried really hard to correct a good amount of mistakes that plagued the series, but couldn’t quite do as much as I wanted. And you really hit it right on with how any character could come up with what the characters in this series say. The only character I really picked up a personality for was the gunner who was obsessed and really into the action, the sniper who had not too much to say but would gladly get the job done. These though, are really basic personalities and still could be improved upon. Early on backgrounds where pretty generic, by part 5 I improved it quite a bit, but still didn’t have too much detail aside from basic the layout of city settings. I improved on it a load more in 6, then 7 was a field/forest which still could hold more features in it, but didn’t. The pros you mentioned I can agree with, this series did a lot of things really well, but others lacked a little bit. And a high 3/5 is definetly reasonable. While it has aged a bit, it also did show improvement through the series and near the end it was at it’s prime for quality which set a bar for how an SN animation should be done, still with much room for improvement.
