For starters I’m not a Dragon Ball fan. That’s not to say I don’t like Dragon Ball I just haven’t been able to watch it. I do know a lot of it’s terminology though, so it was pretty easy for me to pick up on certain elements (like power levels, scouters etc.). It was nice that this series doesn’t require much prior knowledge of DB to follow.

When it comes to the story I feel it’s too soon to tell, as this is the first episode of a assumed long running series. Since it is the first episode, we didn’t have much time to fully establish the characters’ personality, but I was able to get the gist of them, like how Gina is compassionate and Elpman is more spiteful.

The visuals were consistently good in this animation. The fighting animation was great and well paced in my opinion, though I see why some might call it too fast. The background animating instead of remaining static was good as well. The effects were animated excellently, I especially liked the zoom in after Goggito and Elpman fell down the cliff. There were also a couple of grammar mistakes, but nothing to the point where you couldn’t comprehend what they were saying.

All and all, a nice start. I’ll try and keep tuned in with the series!

Humor is inapplicable to this animation, so I won’t critique it.

This is another DBZ series that suffers from the standard errors of pacing, dialogue, and plot. There isn’t a real substance in the fights, as effects are mainly used all throughout. This is a classic “fight for a second, talk for an hour” situation as well. The dialogue could use quite a lot of improvements, and the main conflict that gets Elpman into the forest could be improved significantly. This is also another case where random music is put into scenes just to make the overall animation less static. Music is a benefit indeed, but putting random music with no significance to the scenes or tone is a con. Music is a benefit, but not a necessary benefit. If one is to put music in their animation, that music should also be specifically used to establish backgrounds, scenes, characters even. Music in film and animation is so much more than background noise, and it is a shame that it is often treated as such in series. Overall, this series episode doesn’t offer a lot. It’s basic, to say the least.

Let’s start off with the good par about this. Visually theres some pretty good stuff like characters are rather different with a big contrast in colors and their own design to a degree. The backgrounds are also a nice addition and are nice compared to other DBZ animation scenarios. Some visual stuff looks odd like the effects and faces along with consistency in figures but other than that this isn’t too bad visually. Animation wise it is pretty decent with the fights being a little unique. But the pacing and storytelling makes no sense. Characters aren’t introduced in a solid fashion and no time is taken to develop characters and show their motives. The conflict in the forest is out of nowhere and the music used throughout the animation is not fitting and used well. It also doesn’t flow with the animation, hurting it in the end. In the end, because of that, this feels average along with the storyline. This definetly needs polishing.
