Humor is inapplicable to this animation, so I won’t critique it.
I was looking forward to seeing the series Aeon would produce, but the outcome is a bit disappointing. Though the fighting is well done and properly paced, and the effects are rather nice, this doesn’t succeed as a series episode. Were this a fight animation and a fight animation only, this would be good, but it lacks quite a lot to be considered a good series episode. It’s enjoyable to watch for the most part, though the dialogue can be rather cringy/edgy at times, but it isn’t well done as a series. There needs to be time built up and pieces put in place in order for series to be effective. The first episode/part should establish the setting, introduce characters and circumstances, etc. Why is Aeon chained up? Who killed his brother? Who is Xeon? Why was Xeon introduced as Pawn and then changed to Xeon? Why was Xeon revealed to be a God in literally the first episode? Aeon’s work is typically well done in pacing, but the story pacing here is pretty bad. There definitely could be more done to improve it all. The animation quality is decent, but watch this if you’re really fine with not focusing at all on the story. That’s where it falters the most.
As expected, the animation was astounding with amazing use of angles and loads of other things. But I don’t know where to begin on the problems of this series. So as far as the story goes, it’s building up something unique. So I’ll give it a star for that, but the story aside from it’s unique aspect is told horribly. Big problem in this animation is the setting does not fit the scenario we are given. Aeon is held in a prison, but someone tampers with his chains allowing him to escape, the leave room for some great story and atmosphere. The dark atmosphere is fitting and symbolic, but it loses all of it’s charm the minute you decide to keep that blank template and not step out of your comfort zone of a massive flat area. This hurts the story as the setting doesn’t enforce the plot and the danger of the protagonist in any way even thougn it should. The villian is revealed in such an odd way. It’s brought out so suddent rather than subtly or suspensefully. Theres no cinematic value there. These angles could go a long way but this looks like a simple test/fighting animation with no story. The story leaves you with too many questions and does not develop the main character enough before introducing the villian to the viewer. Very disappointed, but I gotta give credit for that animation. But this is an average SN series right here. Great effects and animation, but important things like story and setting are thrown down the drain.
