Story and humor are inapplicable to this animation, so I won’t critique them.
This is a great example of how a well-animated fight isn’t necessarily a good fight. To give credit, the level of animation and movement in this work is very commendable. The use of dynamic angles is done well and animated smoothly, though the fight needed to take more time to establish normal shots before including them. The effects are also remarkably done, and the mouth blood effect is particularly good.
However, they only actually make contact five times.
This is a good example of an animation that is animated very well but doesn’t really have any substantial content to it. This clearly is made to demonstrate effects and animation mastery over anything, to which it succeeds, but it is specifically labeled a spar, so it will be reviewed like a fight animation. Though the effects may be good and the animation movements may be refined, they only amount to flashy display if they aren’t incorporated into something with substance. In an effort to display animation mastery, this fight has abandoned the aspects important to a fight, which is consistent brawling and contact with the opponent. Many animations make 2-second fights with long pauses of dialogue in between, and this is very similar. Rather than dialogue, it presents fluidity and effects. Though they are well done, it doesn’t actually provide anything to enhance the fight itself. If these effects and movements were combined with good choreography and fighting, it could really be something of quality. For now, it is animation quality but not fight quality. It’s still an enjoyable animation, and I recommend watching it for those who want examples of refined animation, but it ultimately lacks as a fighting animation.
This has one thing that impresses me a load. The angles surrounding the bridge. The bridge shows up as an actual object in the setting rather than a decorative decal. This was very good in that matter taking into consideration what this setting was and carrying that on throughout the animation. Near the end it isn’t shown again considering it could be used so perfectly as a landmark in this simple enviroment. Then the animation becomes confusing as we don’t know where some of them are all of the sudden. The animation in this was pretty decent but suffers from a bit of inconsistency. At one part the animation actual dropped down to just plain bad. But overall this is a short and impressive animation. It just could use more work and content within it considering theres hardly any fight. The build up was good though. Can’t deny that.
