Beipiaosaurus was a small, feathered dinosaur that lived in Northern China approximately 125-121 million years ago, during the Early Cretaceous period. It was a member of the Therizinosaurudae family, which includes other small and large, bipedal dinosaurs. Beipiaosaurus is most notable for its unusual skull and teeth, which suggest that it was primarily a omnivore and a hyper-carnivore who hunted for insects and small mammals. However, its bones show signs of adaptation to an aquatic environment, and it is suspected that Beipiaosaurus was able to swim and dive to help it catch prey.
The remains of Beipiaosaurus have been found in deposits from the Jinzhou Basin region, which was once a large network of swamps, wetlands, and marshes. This environment may have been a breeding ground for Beipiaosaurus and was likely its home.
