Zilla is the “Godzilla” from America’s first try at a Godzilla movie, Godzilla 1998. This version of Godzilla has many design choices that stray from the original design, such as…
– The roar sounds like an elephant
– Instead of being a mutant dinosaur, it’s a mutant iguana
– Its spikes are curved forward instead of being serrated
– Its posture is leaned forward instead of upright
– It’s signifigantly faster
– It’s more cowardly
– Instead of feeding on radiation, it likes fish
– And finally, the part that makes the LEAST sense, unlike normal Godzilla, Zilla can’t withstand bullets and missils worth a crap.
The movie was widely despised by Godzilla fans and a few years after its release, Toho Co. (The movie company that made Godzilla) bought the rigths to Godzilla 1998, and officially renamed it “Zilla” since “they took the ‘god’ out of it”. After that, in the movie Godzilla: Final Wars, Toho had some fun with Zilla and made it die on screen to the original Godzilla himself.
