His backstory:
Ten years before the events of Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), the Duke of Soleanna was researching time travel through the Solaris Project. An accident occurred that shattered the sun deity Solaris into two entities:
Iblis: The raw, unbridled power and "Flames of Disaster."
Mephiles: The mind, will, and conscience.
In the aftermath of the disaster, Shadow the Hedgehog traveled back in time to stop it and sealed Mephiles away within the Scepter of Darkness. Upon being sealed, Mephiles vowed to eventually get revenge on Shadow.
A decade later, during a skirmish involving Shadow, Rouge the Bat, and Dr. Eggman, the Scepter was broken, releasing Mephiles. By making contact with Shadow's shadow, Mephiles absorbed Shadow's physical form, allowing him to take on the hedgehog's appearance (with a few altered, gray-striped features), and vowed to torment him.
Mephiles then orchestrated a centuries-long plan to reunite with his other half, Iblis. To do this, he needed to make Iblis's host, Princess Elise, weep (as her tears held Iblis at bay). Mephiles manipulated a naive Silver the Hedgehog and Blaze the Cat, tricking them into believing Sonic the Hedgehog was the cause of their ruined future, prompting them to travel backward in time to assassinate Sonic.
After failing to convince Shadow to join his side, Mephiles shifted his plan directly to creating Elise's despair. He succeeded by personally killing Sonic the Hedgehog, plunging Elise into absolute grief and freeing Iblis. Mephiles successfully fused with Iblis to recreate the original deity, Solaris.
However, Mephiles and Solaris were ultimately defeated by the combined efforts of Sonic, Shadow, and Silver. In the end, Sonic and Princess Elise traveled back in time to the moment of the original Solaris Project, extinguishing the flame and erasing Solaris, and subsequently Mephiles, entirely from existence and the timeline.
I will be making Sonic.exe finishing Sonic, and making Shadow, Mephiles's true form, and FATAL ERROR. I will make Knuckles and Knuxeous.
