Metal Gear was a revolutionary game, basically creating the stealth genre. It all happened when Hideo Kojima was working on Konami’s latest action game, but he and his co-workers found that with the limited hard ware of the MSX2 that they could only have 2-3 enemies on screen, so Kojima suggested that they’d make the game about avoiding the enemies instead of confronting them, alot of people at Konami thought this idea would not fly but Kojima put together a demo and the testers found it very fun. This marked the beginning of the MG series that would go on to be poorly remade into a stupid zombie game. Metal Gear Solid’s name has two meanings: 1. It was the first 3D Metal Gear game, so obviously it’s solid. 2. The name was made to taunt Konami’s rival at the time; Square games. Metal Gear Solid once again revolutionized the industry and showed that games can have crazy action scenes and a coherent and engaging story. In 2001, Metal Gear Solid 2 came out, and once again, it was a massive hit. When Metal Gear Solid 2 was in production, Kojima decided to give the game a twist much similar to the “I am your father” in Star Wars. Besides the people actively working on Raiden, no one else knew about his existence. Scenes where you play as Raiden in trailers had swapped the model out with Snake’s, and when people found out about Raiden’s inclusion…..Well let’s say it was a mixed reception. Later though MGS2 did get some recognition, but then happened MGS3, known as the fan favorite. Kojima said he’d stop the MGS series at 2, but he’s Kojima and is known to spout cryptic bull s#!t to hype stuff up. MGS3 was a tribute to the classic spy movies that inspired Metal Gear in the first place. It took place in the 1960s during the cold war, where you play as Naked Snake ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) and infiltrate a Russian hanger that has a secret weapon that would change warfare forever. Fun fact, the lead composer for Metal Gear solid jokingly said he wouldn’t compose for another Metal Gear unless it had a jungle theme, and suprise suprise, MGS3 takes place in the jungle, Kojima even jokes about it only having a jungle theme to get Harry Gregory Williams on board. Then there was MGS4, a game continuing the story of Solid Snake and attempting to wrap up the series as this one was supposed to be the last. I can’t talk about MGS4 much because it has alot of important plot points and well, SPOILERS! So I’ll tell you a little fun fact: Konami and Ubisoft were buddy buddy back in 2006, and when Assassin’s Creed was about to come out, Konami made a trailer showing Snake in Altair’s attire shooting Metal Gears. You can still get Altair’s attire in-game. In Assassin’s Creed 2 you can find a “The Orange” box in florence. Then there were 4 spin offs: Metal Gear Portable Ops, Metal Gear Peace Walker, Metal Gear Rising: Revengance, and Metal Gear Ground Zeroes. I’ll talk about Rising since it doesn’t have many spoilers to the main series. After MGS2 alot of people thought that Raiden was pretty lame, hell in MGS3 there’s a character named ‘Raidenivich’ of whom you knock out and steal his clothes for a disguise. So when MGS4 Made him a bit less of a joke, MGR was all about making Raiden ‘Cool’ so they made him a super awesome robot cyborg samurai ninja that suplexes a Metal Gear just because! MGR was made by the same people who made Nier Automata, and it shows! Because of this Kojima had little to no involvement, mostly just allowing them to use his characters. every other spin off is about Big Boss, the name given to Naked Snake after he defeats his mentor, The Boss. Portable Ops and Peace Walker were mainly about how Big Boss goes from a hero to a straight up war monger, and in Ground Zeroes you have to rescue two frienemies from Peace Walker. And then, there was Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom pain. Once again there are alot of important plot points in this game, soo I’ll give you some fun facts! The name ‘Phantom Pain’ is taken from an actual medical symptom, where people who have lost limbs feel pain in one that isn’t there anymore, as such it’s most commonly seen in war vets. Want some Juicy Drama? Well I got some! After MGSV sold 6 Million copies in it’s first year, Konami attempted to strip Kojima’s name from it, fired him, and then disallowed Kojima to recieve a reward for his own game. Obviously fans were extremely p!$$ed. Then after MGSV came…..Metal Gear Surive…..Holy $#!T dude…..I’m just gonna say it’s bad, don’t buy it. That concludes this overly long comment about Metal Gear. My personal favorite Metal Gear is MGS2.
