Dacentrurus is a large stegosaur with lengths of up to 9 meters and 10 tons, around the average Tyrannosaurus mass. A hypothetical large specimen could get up to 13 meters & 20 tons. It’s one of two of the largest stegosaur of all time, beating the 8 ton Stegosaurus stenops & is tied with the 10 ton Stegosaurus ungulatus. Starting in 2024, Dacentrurus got into major controversy as it was proposed that Miragaia is synonymous with Dacentrurus, but some evidence supports Miragaia being valid, though also stating Alcovasaurus is also valid. While Dacentrurus’ specimens is only found in Europe, a paper that studied Allosaurus europaeus found that there are absolutely no differences between it and Allosaurus fragilis skeletally, which make A. europaeus a nomen dubium, which also implies that the Iberian Island was actually much closer to North America than we previously thought, and since Dacentrurus was found in the Lourinha Formation (where A. “europaeus” was found), this can imply that Dacentrurus was also found in North America.
