After losing against the kings, Nightmare resorted to the help of ELITE Corp, after the death of The Boss because of the kings everyone was looking for revenge.

Nightmare with his help would be able to defeat them by hunting the kings one by one, fulfilling the revenge they wanted so much. ELITE Corp decided that Nightmare was capable of protecting them from Celestial threats, naming him the New Boss the Painkiller.

But as time passed, a threat much greater than that of a king or a god, Painkiller would be chosen by Infinity Nightmare, with no other option and seeing that his universe was in danger, he decided to be part of Court of the End...
