A remaster of the MIDF (Menlo Irregular Defense Force), a fan-made faction from The White Series, that is under the purview of the MGF.
ORIGIN
The MIDF is a paramilitary-organization formed by the Menlo government in response to the rapidly deteriorating situation within Menlo City. The MIDF is made up of a part-conscript, part-volunteer force pulled from men ranging between the ages of 18 to 38 years old, though there are some exceptions to this rule. The MIDF was hastily formed to pull together much-needed manpower in order to supplement the frontline. As a result, MIDF recruits can be deployed into combat after as little as 3 weeks of training. Due to this, many recruits are unprepared for the intensity and demands of combat, and as a result, the MIDF usually sustains enormous casualty rates exceeding 50% in some cases. The amount of time required to train a member of the MIDF is a fraction of that of a MGF or MSTOC recruit.
ROLE
The MIDF are primarily an infantry-based force, carrying a wide array of weapons and weapon types to supplement the lack of armored vehicles. The MIDF are like the younger brother to the MGF, in regards to the fact that they are allocated the hand-me-down old, outdated equipment that has been long phased out and laying within armory reserves. The MIDF commonly employ weapons such as RPGs, large tripod machine guns, and a myriad of small-arms ranging from rifles, SMGs, and pistols. Additionally, much of the MIDF gear consists of webbing and pouches as opposed to modern-day plate carriers and vests, or nothing at all if such liberties cannot be afforded. The MIDF serve as minute-men of sorts; They are often stationed in small outposts and encampments scattered throughout the city where the MGF cannot be bothered to dedicate precious resources to secure themselves. In this sense, the MIDF are often the first-line of defense, and as a result, can see upwards of 75% casualties on the field of battle before help can arrive, exacerbated by the large number of TW-30 and special infected types . The MIDF also serve the role as scouts, rearguard, and logistical personnel.
ORGANIZATION
Currently, the MIDF consists of 2 regiments, each with a total manpower of approximately 2 thousand soldiers. Each regiment is broken down into 4 battalions, each consisting of 400-600 men at full strength. The battalions can further be broken down into 4 companies of 100-150 men, platoons of 30-50, all the way down to the squadron level with 9 men each. However, this unit organization is liquid, and often-times units will be hodge-podged together, decommissioned, or reallocated when necessitated. Furthermore, several independent units exist within the MIDF, each with their unique origins, specialties, and varying levels of effectiveness. Examples include the 4th mechanized infantry battalion- the only one of its kind, the 11th light-infantry reconnaissance unit, the 1st Iron Chariots Armored company, another one of its kind, and Pavlovs Battalion. Each level of the MIDF organization hierarchy also employs a MGF military advisor that aids in overseeing combat operations and logistics, starting at the company level. The advisor can also substitute as the unit commander in the event the unit commander is killed or otherwise cannot be contacted. The MIDF seldom has many veterans that remain after several weeks of combat. Therefore, the experience is often valuable and such men- the small lucky bunch of their generation- are given NCO or officer positions. However, due to the lack of adequate support and overbearing micro-management (or the complete opposite, simply left forgotten by the chain of command and left to their own devices) from MGF HQ, the lucky few that remain can only watch as fresh meat is thrown into the grinder that is Menlo City.
DESERTION
The MIDF is evidently not a great organization to be a part of. Many troops simply desert on the field, abandoning their posts or falling back without communication from high command. Many large groups of MIDF personnel remain scattered in isolated pockets throughout the city, fending for their own. The limited firepower and supplies afforded to them by the powers above have given them a fighting chance in the hellscape and rapidly degrading situation at Menlo City.
