The dreadnought is, as the mechanicus would say, the absolute meld of man and machine.
inside of the sarcofagus is a severely injured, half dead space marine, deemed to be too great a battle brother to die.
now the space marine controls the huge mecanical body as it was his own, inacting the will of the emperor in a blaze of fury and flame.
anyway lore aside... huge cyborg box, got guns and all that.
