The Ion Rifle is a state-of-the-art offensive rifle used abundantly by the 'Galactic Institute' (whom of which are basically the space equivelent of the 'FBI'.

The Ion Rifle uses a large battery pack stored in it's front to fire semi-automatic ionised rounds of super heated plasma (translation for Ralph: it shoots a laser every time you press the trigger).

The Ion Rifle is always considered a god weapon to use for every occasion though is not reccomended against the Cybermind or rouge Galactic Institute rangers as they both use energy shields a lot which can render plasma weapons like these useless compared to projectile weapons (so normal guns basically but they'd still be bad against the robotic hordes of the Chbermind which boast their steel bodies)
