Humor is inapplicable to this animation (as it is not one of the main focuses), so I will not critique it.
I remember watching the original episodes of Corrupted, and this is a big step up. There are some very noticeable flaws with this episode, but there are some nice elements to it as well. This first episode and prologue don’t do much to define a plot, which is perfectly fine, as the main focus is creating the setting and establishing characters. The fighting is pretty nice for what it is, and the pacing at the start of the animation is well-done. The introduction to the meteor was also very well done, and it was set up well with Mei looking at the stars. However, this animation suffers quite a bit from introducing too much information at once. It is ambitious to include all these characters at once, but it becomes difficult for the audience to remember all of them in such a short timespan. Only with prior knowledge of SN characters and the community would they be easily recognized. The backgrounds also could be improved quite a bit more, and there are general flaws any normal series would have. Regardless of that, it is a solid start to a series, as it has introduced all the characters, established the beginning of a plot with the corruption, and has adequate pacing. More could be done to make these characters have distinct personalities, and fights could be a lot more than just dynamic angle flow, but this is a solid start.
This suprized me. The use of angles was great and the effort put into this made it enjoyable. While the characters are often not memorable aside from Omar as he appears to have been the main focus here. Personalities feel they aren’t conveyed and the story takes a while to kick in. But the episode takes some time for everything. Introducing characters (though too many for one episode) and bringing forward the world and what it is like now as well as time to introduce a disturbance which actually is done perfectly to me. This has you interested almost all the way through as visuals carry an above average amount of effort which keeps the viewer interested. The length of this for one episode too shows effort and thought into the viewer. I would certainly recommend this. Just a few flaws concerning characters, personality and uniqueness in this series.
3/5
