Hey baby’s, Bootlegsnake here (to break up some confusion on April Fools), wanted to try out a second lore post so why not get into it Y’know
This is gonna be a species related one, specifically the Pythin species
All I’m saying is get ready for a big post
_____________________________________________[The Pythin]
**Biology and evolutionary features:**
Strangely humanoid creatures, Pythins look a whole lot like humans in the face but by taking a step back you will realize they are nowhere near human. Pythins are tall beings with typically dark grey skin, they sport digitigrade legs with hooves for feet and seem to lack most human facial features like ears or a nose structure. Pythins, unlike most of their extraterrestrial neighbors, seem to be a species that has kept *most* of their evolutionary traits, even if they’ve become slightly outdated. A great example of this would be the long chitinous blades stored within a flap on their forearms, this Stone Age adaption was created for better defense against predators and has survived as a feature thousands of years later, becoming more of a deadly weapon as they evolve. In the Stone Age, Pythins have developed a certain toxin in their saliva that causes long lasting diarrhea and stomach pain, leaving lasting impressions on the predator that almost ensures they don’t return.
As the Stone Age came to its close, Pythins began to move up into the mountains, safe from the large beasts lurking in their forests, it was around this time that they began to develop hooves for feet with a hard exterior and a softer bottom for molding around an outcrop when climbing. It’s also been theorized that it was around this era that they had developed special membrane wings for gliding long distances, which is a sensible theory since those same wings are still used for gliding from one mountain to another. It was during this time that Pythins began to develop smaller mouths and blunter teeth for grinding, granted they still have 4 sets of canine teeth on their upper jaw and will continue to as they move from being carnivorous to omnivorous, allowing them to easily rip into meat or grind away harder non-meat foods, this adaption was allowed due to the increase in digestive power which allowed them to start eating wood and other typically inedible food sources.
Pythins, as they evolved, seemed to have never attempted to stray away from their primitive forms of communication nor did they actually have a reason to do so. If they need to communicate, they will make use of 3 organs on the top of their head responsible for hearing and speaking, these organs will flare open in unison when both speaking and receiving some sounds. These organs, when speaking, will rattle and move in a wavelike motion and emit a series of noises ranging from high pitched whistling to clicking and humming, making their mouths completely useless for speech except in a *few cases* such as screaming or playing a part in their *infamous* battle cry.
As English became more of a popular language amongst them, the usage of their actual vocal coords increased to about the same level of usefulness as these organs.
It seemed that from day one Pythins always had hair, and lots of it. Much like us, this hair is placed in regions like the head, chest, ass, crotch, armpits , and legs to prevent onset hypothermia in their primitive years and during the long ice ages. Of course the actual usefulness of their hair has gone down significantly once clothes became a very popular thing during the ice ages and so forth, going from the amount of hair a gorilla would have to the amount a human would have if not slightly more.
Despite having no actual nasal structure and rather 2 holes leading into their face, it is strange to know that Pythins have a *very* keen sense of smell, a feature they had from day 1 that is used for smelling pheromones emitted by females when they want to fuck or the gender of something. Traps can’t hide from Pythins if they can smell the penis from miles away.
**defense mechanisms and warnings**
If there is one thing Pythins are absolutely known for, its their love for fighting. So it’s not unusual that Pythins have developed some defense mechanisms or warnings to let (potential) attackers know that they can and will fight back, whether it be making a display of their weapons or letting out organ shaking cries of anger, Pythins like to very vocal when it comes to wanting to *kill*.
Battlecrys: If a battle has struck and a Pythin knows it wants to participate, it will emit a type of horrific battle cry signifying that it’s time to fight. By making use of 1 of their speech organs and their actual vocal coords, they can manipulate them and emit a sort of low pitched growling scream that if heard triggers a part of the brain responsible for fear, activating ones fight or flight response. This noise is a result of perfect evolution, being unique in the sense that things like a Varcauis can’t recreate it and that if a Pythin in the immediate area hears it, it will trigger a natural sense of teamwork and violence, urging them to come to the others aid in a battle. The fear effect and the triggering of violence still works if the noise is played through something like a recording device. In the Pythin language, this scream translates into “Leave none behind”, meaning that it’s meant to signify that they *want to kill you*
Forearm blades: Another result of perfect evolution is their retractable chitinous blades stored within their forearms. These organic weapons have an uncanny resemblance to a human harpoon spear, being long pointed blades with a sort of protruding blade on top, meant for easy penetration and intentional snagging when exiting so that the wound gets bigger when removed. These blades are well known amongst their extraterrestrial neighbors for whatever unlucky bastard forced a Pythin into self defense and survived will be left with heavy scarring and reoccurring pain depending on how far the blade actually went in.
As they became more technologically advanced, they began to use guns and explosives as well, but for a long time it was these 2 things that were most heavily relied on because they didn’t need anything else. Even in their modern era Pythins will still emit battle cries or will heavily depend on their blades if without a weapon.
**Physical looks (In depth):**
Pythins have a very humanoid chest and face, sporting a humanoid skeleton but with noticeable differences such as the legs, wings structure, sharper teeth, and chitinous blades. Most unusual would be their strangely reinforced rib cages, being of a slightly different structure with stronger ribs protecting the organs.
They’re much taller than an average human, their usual height being roughly 6-7ft and their limbs are longer and with more muscle build up to make up for the lengthened limbs.
Pythins are typically dark skinned, sporting the colors: Dark blue, black, dark grey, and grey. Only rarely is a white Pythin seen (referring to albino Pythins, not a different race).
Pythins have bioluminescent markings on their face and sometimes on their back, these marks represent a family and can date back millions of years ago. Interbreeding doesn’t seem to heavily affect the shape and placement of the markings, but there are some exceptions to that.
Eyes are *slightly* larger than that of a humans and they have no nasal structure, only existing 2 holes where the nose should be. In a similar vein they have no ear structure, that is left to the 3 organs atop their head.
*Slight difference in appearance of sexual organs. Referring to humans and Pythins organs*
Pythins have naturally wider hips which carries over in both genders, more seen in females due to their widened birthing canal for easier birthing.
Their feet closely resemble hooves but also look like the feet of a dinosaur, splitting into 3 toes each with a hoov-like structure underneath as well as a heel that can articulate for grabbing rocks.**Final biological tidbit:**
Pythins can generally outlive most things, on average living to be 90 years old but it seems quite a few make it into their 120’s with ease.
