    • The Moyai Statue is held in high regards by people on the internet due to it’s appearance and historical significance, while the moyai doesn’t necessarily have great historical impact like a war or such, that very concept is what makes people take a liking to it.

That ‘I just done this for the sake of it and it looks cool’ attitude, that care-free instinctively fuelled desire to do something or say something without necessarily thinking of function or meaning, almost like a painting, it is done to appear good and nothing particularly more or to hide a secret meaning that can only be deciphered upon depiction and observation.

The moyai has that affect, the very expression of the moyai is quite laid back but still has an aura of subtle intensity, the heavy brow placed firmly over the eyes connecting seamlessly to the forehead, the shadow cast over it’s eyes, the mouth with a subtle smile, something so plain yet meaningful.

The smile is comparable to a Monkey’s, possessing a fairly smiley face but not completely beaming with happiness and emotion. A slight grin if you will, insinuating positive messages to our brain from our eyes what we’re seeing, enough to make us feel positive and content. With the contrast of the heavy brow and intensely rich shadow beneath it, it provides us with the small difference between a simple yet imposing casual expression and a minute smile possessing rich content full joy.

The moyai symbolises happy simplicity, something so plain and impactful. It’s almost comparable to cavemen, the protruding forehead and brow but friendly face, something that exudes warmth but nothing that makes you feel too comfortable.

The expression and meaning of the moyai within internet culture lies on the forefront of silent emotion, meant to usually represent a simple satisfied expression on a ‘dumb’ face.

The appearance, shadow and what it is, allows us to accept our own mistakes, stupidities and simple nature in a cheerful adequate style. Something so beautiful, individual and plain in a unique mesmerising, possibly inspiring way.
