Got the idea from a book I’m reading.

dumbass should’ve won the war that’s on them
2nd because at least with the first it is purely unknown whether they are in pain or on their way home etc.
News on how much they’ve been hurting is pure horror for a parent, sure you know they’re alive but at what cost.
Good question by the way, definitely a thought-provoking one.
Hearing their pain,
I already know they will suffer, why not at least get told so I know the situation and if they about to die or not?
