    16th June 2023 – Friday

Alternate Entry Today – Scarlett releases the entirety of her new Album ‘ One too many mornings ‘.

Song 1 – healing the world

It carries a sort of triumphant almost patriotic sound to it what with what sounds somewhat like guitar. Accompanied by the consistent fast-paced drumbeat the song makes for a pretty nice piece, the opening really had a solid build up to it and beginning to accumulatively build up the sounds that would play out for the rest of the song along with other unique sounds like a seemingly random tapping sound.

    Song 2 – beyond forever

With such a dramatic sounding name the song surely follows suite with a consistent bellowing guitar sound along with the deep background noises

Song 3 – chased through the stars, into the cosmic night

I wasn’t really sure what to make of this song as it changed it’s tone often with a more pleasant regular atmospheric sound and then a darker gloomier sound almost reminiscent of the dormant sound an amp makes when turned up loud or really just any time.

    Song 4 – become nothing

This song served as a sort of breath of fresh air from the last three songs with more of an ambient feel to them, not in a bad way but this song held more clearer defining sounds and structure to it, with inclusion of vocals to it was more accustoming to classic rock songs and such you’d hear.

    Song 5 – war endures

Returning to form again the song serves as a ‘consistent sound’ with a few change-ups throughout, could work for a variety of setups where a scene and other elements take the cake but on it’s own it felt kind of vanilla and too standard to itself.

Song 6 – the whole universe surrenders

Such a breakup of sound from the past few songs with more an upbeat ‘goofy’ sound to it like something you’d hear in a video game, maybe a platformer in an underground or indoors location. Overall very nice and has a clear enjoyable sound to it consistently with a change-ups to the sounds so it wouldn’t come across as too repetitive.

Song 7 – living in loving awareness

I really like the transition in the first parts of this song from a quiet empty sound to something techno-sounding and eventually into the catchy sci-fi sound it would become.

    Song 8 – looking inside

Once again a song with fitting name, with the guitar sounds and weird shifting distorted sounds ( I can’t think how to describe it ) it served as a pretty shorter piece

Song 9 – do you want a paradise?

With a name that good I was already hooked and the song was able to keep it with it’s menacing yet calming focused sound, the adjustments throughout were very fitting and felt like it could come together well.

Song 10 – scythe of the reaper

The bass going strong to open following in with the sounds to come definitely made the song an adjustment but the theme it made known was established and served as a deeper atmospheric song.

Song 11 – the claustrophobic horizon

I won’t lie this made me think of the first song with the way it played out but it was able to pickup at some point changing the pattern and having more of a crazy ‘Texan’ feel to it, chaotic for sure.

Song 12 – this is happiness

Ending on a high note with a more melodic beautiful piece, the sounds were quite solemn initially and served as a good build-up for the eventual guitar to come in and shake things up a bit, to approach the end of the song had meant falling back on the pretty sound it started on leaving the sound flow and fit not only it’s name but it’s dynamic.

    Final words of the ‘day’

I understand your confusions with this site log as it had gone from logging details of the day to becoming ‘Song review’ of Scarlett’s new album but I figured after finally dropping and being worth some hype it would be nice to go over her work along with point out the most notable part of the rest of this day after the last log was posted late skewing the timing and linked posts etc.

The album and songs included were pretty solid, I don’t feel as if the title of the album aligned much with the sounds but that hardly matters. The music itself was pretty good but at times felt kind of jumbled, ambient and just a bit too vanilla. I think once a point was reached likely after ‘ war endures ‘ it came together and felt more coherent but all in all made for a fun listening experience.

My favourite song had to have been ‘ the whole universe surrenders ‘.

    See you all on Sunday!

    • this was a fun read. i appreciate yr commentary and opinions, and i super appreciate you taking time to make this. however i would like to state a couple things in addition to all the stuff here.

      1. the album’s title “one too many mornings” is meant to be somewhat sarcastic in tone, and wasn’t meant to be a direct description of the contents of the record. the original title was “the morning and afternoon of yr life” which i feel is a more apt title, but i thought the final title was more memorable and would just work better as a title.

      2. each song on this album (with the exception of “looking inside” which was added for the sole purpose of being a simple interlude and a break from the rowdier cuts) is somewhat of an abstract painting representing a point of my life. for example, “this is happiness” is meant to represent feigning happiness when you’re really not happy at all, which is why for the majority of the song you have the very ’80s synths mixed with the distorted guitar, the synths representing the facade of happiness and the guitars standing in for the true feeling under that. the ending where it gets all slow is the facade slipping. that song was the last finished.

      3. the “jumbled, ambient” sound was entirely intentional. at the time of this record’s creation, i was very into experimental, noise based rock such as sonic youth, and that unabashedly shined through in the final product. i wanted this record to sound rough and loud more than anything. at a point i forgot people other than me would be listening to it, but more than anything before it, this record was made for my own enjoyment rather than the enjoyment of anyone else.

      • Replying to: scarlettthis was a fun read. i appreciate yr commentary and opinions

I’m glad you mentioned this, I felt at times that sort of idea was the case but couldn’t find the way to describe it. It was good to know the other elements of what made it up and I can see why it sounded the way it did both for it’s more in-depth meaning and literally whether it’s a full-on song or interlude as you say.

Was a fun breakaway from site logs and definitely worth checking out.
