Dadās currently giving a lecture to my siblings how masks are ineffective and actually cause sickness, the vaccine is fake and wasnāt āresearched enoughā so therefore itās going to hurt you if you get it (luckily this is the only vaccine he believes is āfakeā, Iām still fully vaccinated on everything else) and how Covid can be cured by a selection of pills he saw on the internet. He also recently gave one on how the election was rigged. He also thought that Covid mightāve been a bio weapon released by some guy.
This is getting annoying, he basically just thinks everything on the news is fake and only the very sketchy articles he reads are the truth, heās the embodiment of confirmation bias. And I used to believe this stuff too before I gained common sense. Canāt argue with him though or else he says ādo your own researchā even though heās the one making these bullshit claims, so I continue to get these 30 minutes lectures. Though he seemed to be giving them to me specifically less, I started to argue with him on some stuff so I guess he just decided to stop since he doesnāt want to argue.

coronavirus was made by corona extra to promote their beer, wake up liberal sheeple
How could I have been so blind

He should touch some grass or something damn
Real talk though, sure the world around us isnāt full of honesty, rainbows and buttercups but who cares, it is what it is, you do what you got to do and if things get in your way, sort it out. As soon as these convoluted theories start floating around you just come across as some crazy keyboard warrior Redditor.
What stands out to me the most is that heās your father and heās acting like that, it might not be abuse or worse but equally if I was acting like this as a dad, I would be disappointed. Youāve got crazy theories? More? Keep it to yourself and donāt fill your kids heads with theories instead of fact reason and good cultural messages.
Iām sorry to hear it Manny, I wish you and your family well and hopefully your father doesnāt take anything too far. I doubt he will so donāt take my good wishes as some sort of overdramafication of events.
Tried telling him to quit telling me this stuff saying how I donāt care but he still does it, though it has diminished
He doesnāt see it as wrong though because he believes these theories with all his heart, he got so paranoid once that he was convinced people were gonna come into our school and force give us the vaccine, and he was telling us how we should beat them up and run if that ever happened, itās insane the stuff he thinks
Oh wow, I thought he was just a wild Redditor theorist, all talk no action but this guy sounds a little cracked out.
Well, at the end of the day ( not really, itās literally always but still ) heās your dad so I guess just kind of laugh it off, if you take to it as sort of a joke or apply a little sarcasm, given heās not completely off his nut and wonāt smash your skull in he should dial it back and realise heās just being a dumbass.
The effectiveness of this option isnāt backed up by anything so donāt take my word on it but usually whenever my dad says something and it comes across as a little smooth-brained or goofy Iāll just kind of play it off, you got to balance the respectful āheās your fatherā aspect and the sort of friendship aspect. So long as you donāt cross the line for either youāll be at a pretty sweet spot I think.
Gotta love delusional parents it’s something you can one day look back at and laugh at cause you wore a mask and survived
