It could just be your style for not using gradients but if you want some good examples of gradient work i recommend looking at some of gigan’s figures and taking mental notes on how they use gradients.
Gigan is a gradient god who I respect and fear from his clear talent.
Mans skills are scary
Gigan is very creative with how they texture their figures. Its pretty impressive how they can just blend sprites into their figures.
Also btw how many nodes did you use on the recreation? I got mine down to 180 and have been using large nodes to free up space
