I mean idk, there is no specific way I do shading with my figs, at least not one I can put into words lol.
I guess just start with a light source with your fig. Once you have a direction of light it becomes easy to add lighting and shadows to your stuff.
Drop shadow is also pretty neat and since I split my figures up into lots of individual pieces it comes in handy in creating depth and contrasting the different parts
