The following is a transcript from a GDF teams radio, heard by an unknown responder. Dated March 4th, 1993

Unknown: Ok, is the radio on?

Responder: Yeah, we can hear you.

Unknown: Can you hear the rest of the team?
[Faint people chatting, unintelligible]

Responder: Yes, where are you guys right now?

Unknown: We’re currently in [REDACTED] looking for the Obelisk, it’s been inactive for a while now.

Responder: Why do you search there specifically?

Unknown: The last traces of it seem to lead here, there’s also-

Responder: Hello?

[Silence for 22 seconds]

Unknown: Sorry, some fucker [Redmass] jumped out at us.

Responder: Is anyone hurt?

Unknown: No, but theres a shit ton of buildings that are overrun by these weird vine things. I know its Redmass, but I’ve never seen this variant before.

Responder: That’s not new. Those things your describing are leftover from the Obelisk, we call them “Branchers.”

Unknown: Are they.. alive?

Responder: Yes. They act as a sort of.. hivemind.

[In the background members are telling the Unknown person to come over]

Unknown: Hold up a sec.. their telling me to come over.

[Silence for 13 seconds]

Unknown: We found it!

Responder: Where?

Unknown: It’s behind some buildings.. I think its in hibernation.

Responder: Why do you think that is-

Unknown: Shit! It woke up, fuck! Its killing the team!

Responder: Should we send back up?

Unknown: What the fuck!? It just.. stopped!

[Silence 21 seconds]

Unknown: Holy shit…

Responder: Whats happening?!

Unknown: It’s.. evolving..
