While the axe would be considered at first glance, upon closer inspection you can find a sword can easily surpass it. with an axe, your maneuvers are limited thanks to the weight of the axehead, not evenly distributing weight and instead focusing it all on one point. a sword on the other hand has evenly distributed weight and is overall lighter, this gives you more stopping power, quicker attacks and a lot more choices of action.
another point is blocking and parrying. if you wanna stop a blade with an axe, it either gonna hit the axehead, knocking the axe way out of where it should be or it’s going to hit the shaft, damaging it.
whereas, a sword can block/parry just about anywhere, even the hilt if it has a swept hilt.
this is why i encourage the use of the Bhuj so much, it’s more capable of blocking and parrying thanks to it’s metal shaft and it’s crossguard, hence why it’s technically a sword and not an axe.

also, by Egyptian weapons i’m guessing you mean the Khopesh. i’ll just leave you with a professional.

WHAT IF the axe is supposed to be like that to easily kill people who are in armor.
Also, a sword that is evenly balanced is stupid, most swords have it heaviest in a certain part.

Khopehes still suck, they are to short and wouldn’t be good at duels or on the field.

that’s the point, they’re supposed to be a damage weapon but are absolutely useless without a shield and leave you incredibly open to stab attacks.
also, swords are indeed heavier on one end but also need some weight at the hilt in order to control it, this is why the ultimate dueling weapon, the Rapier, always has a swept hilt.
The Khopesh does not suck, while they are short, that is the point, they’re Shortswords. if you want a big ass sword, just use a Longsword. the reason these are used is specifically for the Field, it’s so cluttered that just by swinging it willy nilly you’ll probably hit something. meanhwile. they’re not so good in duels because 1, they aren’t long enough and 2, thrusting weapons like the before mentioned Rapier are the kings of dueling

They are a Shortsword, no ifs, no buts. Like i just said, they were designed for the fraw of combat, in massive and clustered field combats where there are people everywhere.
You also forget that soldiers are 90% of the time not actually fighting and instead are just travelling and sitting around. The Khopesh not only makes for an excellent tool but also is very light, making for easy journeys.
And if you REALLY want some umph, just do what i did with Tehphet by making a Heavy Khopesh, a fantasy version that i better suited for duels
also egypts weapons suck
