So we have a problem. The FTC will begin charging any YouTube creator a $42,000 fine for EACH VIDEO that is directed towards kids and runs personalized ads.
Unfortunately, they are vague in the description of what is considered ‘for kids’, and it’s basically up to the people/youtubers to decide if their content is suited for kids or not. However, YouTube could turn around and say it’s not, and ultimately send any channel down the toilet (no comments allowed, no notifications, no ad revenue, no nothing) and also send hundreds of thousands to even millions of other channels down the same route.
Basically, this could be the beginning of the end of YouTube if nothing is done. So this is where we need your help:
Step one: Watch this video if you can. It outlines exactly what is going on. – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1b9HGNHm-aQ&feature=youtu.be
Step two: Sign this petition – https://www.change.org/p/the-federal-trade-commission-youtubers-and-viewers-unite-9045ee7f-f6f0-460e-b088-3429209dd7c6?recruiter=1015502725&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylink&utm_campaign=share_petition
Step three: Write a letter to the FTC if possible – https://www.regulations.gov/comment?D=FTC-2019-0054-0001
I am personally scared for the future, as the careers and dreams of countless content creators could possibly be incinerated. As of right now, I am going to work hard to make sure this doesn’t pass.
this could be the beginning of the end of YouTube
youtube is already neccing itself as long as they ushering in shitheads like will smith and katy perry onto the platform and bending over backwards to shove their content into your face
prioritizing them and late show clips and other “priority creators” from legacy media/TV over the community of independent creators that made youtube what it is today = highway to myspace-level irrelevancy
so lol @ youtube
