I made a moodboard focused on things I’d like to achieve with Ashley’s design. It will definitely succeed this time because unlike with past designs, I actually bothered to attach a proper theme to him

Still can’t start yet because I haven’t decided on a colour scheme-

So basically I took what Gigan did, looked at it for a few minutes and learned some stuff, then I immediately [REDACTED] it when I realised that it wouldn’t be mix well with the style of my own figures
So I used what I learnt to make my own version and it came out looking like this

M0-773W Model Σ

Heh, talk about a deviation from the norm. Meet Mellow everyone, for probably the last time, EVER! I for sure can’t predict the future at all, but as of now I don’t believe that Mellow’s fundamental design will require further development beyond this point. I believe that he’s been finalised. Good god, it’s been a ride.
This design was the result of me figuring out a few things about myself, why I do what I do and all that stuff. It also stemmed from a desire to return back to Mellow’s roots which is something that I now believe I have achieved. I had the idea of bringing the oldest design of Mellow back from the grave, sprucing it up and using that. I soon realised however that a cartoonish design like that would clash with the designs of the more human characters around him, who are a bit more grounded in reality. I decided to go for the robot route because it would give him a valid excuse of looking this way, plus I always wanted to make a mechanical Mellow doppelganger of sorts.
As for the design itself, it once again takes elements from the Spark the Electric Jester series, albeit from a different angle. As you can see in the moodboard below, there are some robotic jesters here that you can easily tell had a great part in this Mellow iteration.

I think the Jester motif now takes absolute priority here. The fact that he’s a robot seems to emphasise that as well, because you wouldn’t think upon seeing him that he’s just a jester. No, you’d think that he’s a robot jester, which I feel brings that aspect out even more. He’s got plenty of that obligatory Rule of Cool in him too with the scarf I “borrowed” from Super Fark and some familiar sunglasses. They ultimately don’t take away from anything else though, and I feel that they give him more character.

I honestly fear that one day I’ll just get sick of this design like all the others and want to do something else with him, which is a shame because this is probably Mellow at the highest point he’s ever been at. I definitely wouldn’t want that to happen, because this honestly feels like the definitive Mellow. I should definitely make a poll one day asking which design resonates with people the most though, it might turn out to be quite interesting.
Mellow and his world’s lore has changed as a result of this design, but I feel that everything has benefited from the change regardless. A lot more can be done and explored with Mellow’s character as a result of this, because he’s still our human-hearted Mellow beneath that alloy exterior. Along with him being an anti-hero and criminal – what with the whole sky pirate thing – this Mellow could make for a character far more interesting than what I planned for him previously.

Once everything I want to do urgently is done, I’m putting Melo-D in an axolotl suit onesie thing for a new main design, and no one by then will be able to stop me from ditching his old stuff

I figured that I probably shouldn’t keep this as a hidden surprise any longer because this is something that I’m genuinely struggling and need help with.

So, I’ve hinted at this before, but I’m currently working on a Medley overhaul. Problem is that there’s one thing in my way that’s stopping me from going any further, and it’s the fact that I still don’t actually know how to make hair. Some help or tips would once again be greatly appreciated because I don’t know what I’m doing lol

In terms of updates about his character, Medley is no longer his name with Ashley Reilhomus taking its place. In actuality, that was always planned to be his name (more or less) with Medley being an alias used to hide his royal upbringing. But with the lore rewrite I’m working on thanks to the existence of M0-773W (Mellow), he’s no longer a royal. Just some quirked up white boy pilot from a village high in the mountains. He’s also a short ginger now too compared to the 5ft 11 robo jester, which is funny. Unlike my characters before, Mellow and Ashley’s ages are now non-definitive. You could interpret them to be either young adults or teens very close to reaching that stage. Yes, Mellow’s body and mind is capable of developing through aging, he was indeed a small child once. When I’m done rewriting the lore, I’ll probably put it up for people to see. Maybe you’ll like it
