The way the earth is going to die is when the sun turns into a red giant as it runs out of fuel and increases its outer layers.
The way its going to lose its habitable state could possibly be the same way, but could maybe be a major asteroid impact. (idk maybe, most probably still would be the sun.)
And planets and stars, possibly even black holes are gonna die before the universe dies.
The universe might not even die, it could probably just expand forever and ever. Just expanding while completely empty, and nothing ever happens because nothing can happen.
